Western Conifer Seed Bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis
The Western Conifer Seed Bug is classified as a a member os the scientific order called Hemiptera or True Bugs. Insects in this group have two sets of wings with the front pair being transparent at the tip but leathery at the base. The Western Conifer Seed Bug is native to western North America but has gradually spread its range and is now also found in Europe. This is a herbivorous insect and feeds on the sap of young conifers, hence its common name.
