October 2008 - Claret-cup Cactus

Claret-cup Cactus
Echinocereus coccineus cactus
The stunning flower is the bloom of the Claret-cup Cactus, found across the deserts of the Southwestern United States. Lucky observers should pay close attention to the striking beauty because they only flower for a few days in the Spring. Hummingbirds are the main pollinators of this desert beauty.
