Snake's Head
Fritillaria meleagris

The original English name for this month's flower is Snake's Head. It has a chequered reddish-brown and purplish colour with blotches of white.  It is a very distinctive bell shaped flower.  It enjoys growing in grasslands to 40 cm high. It can be found in altitudes up to 800 metres. The small bulbs contain poisonous alkaloids.
