June 2009 - Orchard Mason Bee
|
Orchard Mason Bee
Osmia lignaria
Like masons, mason bees are builders. In their nests, they create compartments made of mud. In each compartment the female lays one egg.

Orchard Mason Bee
The Orchard Mason Bee is especially liked by cultivators of fruit trees, hence its name. One of the most noticeable characteristics is the greenish metallic colour. It is also relatively long hair on its head and thorax.
