Red Crossbill, Loxia curvirostra

The Red Crossbill is a finch found in conifer and mixed forests across Canada and down through the western United States. It has a unique bill designed for prying open pine cones, which are its main diet.

These birds will visit water dishes or bird baths for drinking because of the seeds that they consume. The female is more into the yellow shades rather than the red of the male.
