Swallows and martins belong to a family of birds called Hirundinidae. This family is characterized by the amazing aerial feeding ability which these birds have. The shape and stream-lined body allows them manoeuvre, glide and fly while hunting insects.
The Violet-green Swallow is a small bird, only 5.5 in/14 cm long. It is found in Western North American from Alaska down to Mexico.
