November 2013 - Snowy Egret
|
Snowy Egret
Snowy Egret, Egretta thula
The beautiful Snowy Egret is found along the US Gulf coast and in wetlands in the Great Basin and western plains. It has a long, slender black bill, yellow eyes and yellow lores, the part of a bird's head between its bill and eye. The Snowy Egret was once hunted for its soft plumes, but fortunately is now increasing in population and expanding its range.
