Wood Duck, Aix sponsa
The Wood Duck is a colourful and wonderfully patterned dabbling duck. It nests in wood cavities, hence its common name. In some places, specially designed nesting boxes have been built and mounted for them to use. The female lacks some of the exotic colouration of the male, but has characteristic white around the eyes.
