June 2012 - Trumpeter Swan
|
Trumpeter Swan
Trumpeter Swan, Cygnus buccinator
If you ever get the chance to hear a Trumpeter Swan make its unmistakable "honk honk" call, it will remind you of an old trumpet-style car horn! Once on the brink of extinction, this magnificent bird is now making a comeback. Measuring over 5 ft/1.5 m long and with a wingspan of almost 7 ft/2 m, this is North American's largest waterfowl and the world's largest swan.
