Coptis trifolia
Goldthread is a member of the buttercup family. This is a beautiful plant that enjoys moist conditions and can be found at fairly high elevations.

It is generally a single flower on each leafless stalk, and not very high, up to 6 inches.  Depending on the location the flowering time is variable, at high elevations it can be found in late July.
