a large North American wren and is the state bird of Arizona.

The Cactus Wren is a resident of the deserts of the southern United States and northern Mexico. It is often spotted sitting on top of a cactus. At 7-8.75 in/18-22 cm long, it is the largest wren in North America.

It is characterized by its white eye stripe, brown cap as well as a long, curved bill which is uses to probe
for food on the ground or in branches. It eats insects and spiders as well as some fruit and seeds.

Cactus Wren
The Cactus Wren has the amazing ability to somehow avoid the needles of cactus plants and spiny trees and shrubs. It often builds its domed nest between the arms of a cactus where the eggs and young are protected from predators. Often, several nests are built as decoys.
