Acorn Woodpecker, Melanerpes formicivorus
The Acorn Woodpecker is a noisy resident of the forest of western Oregon, California and parts of the southwestern US. It loves to store acorns in holes drilled into trees. It also eats sap, insects and nuts. It's the only woodpecker with a black back, white belly and a face of black and white with a red crown.
