Common Goldeneye, Bucephala clangula
The Common Goldeneye is an attractive diving duck.  The male has a black head with a green gloss to it.  It also has a predominant white oval in front of its piercing golden eye.  Most of its body is white, with a black back.  Females (below) tend to be a lot duller overall, but still have the characteristic golden eye. The Common Goldeneye is 16-20 in/41-51 cm  long and has a wingspan of 25-32 in/64-81 cm.
