Dereila Nature Inn Home > Bird's Nest Lounge > Bird of the Month   August 2007 - Canada (Gray) Jay   Perisoreus canadensis The Canada, or Gary Jay, is a bold, curious and friendly bird, familiar to campers and picnickers in the Rockies and across Canada. Also known as "camp robbers", Gray Jays appear unexpectedly out of conifer forests attracted to foreign sounds and potential feeding chances. Some people call these birds "Whiskey Jacks" a name derived from the Algonquin name for the bird: wiskedjack.
