Shooting Stars are beautiful wildflowers and easy to recognize with their petals which sweep back from a sharp-looking tip which hangs down. The Tall Mountain Shooting Star grows in clumps, sometimes up to 2 ft/50 cm tall. It prefers damp areas in the foothills and montane areas western North America. It is also called Jeffery's Shooting Star and is named after John Jeffery who was a botanist in British Columbia in the 1850s. |
