The name Cedar Breaks has an interesting background: Utah Juniper trees which cover the below the part were mistakenly thought to be cedars.  Breaks refers to where the edge of the plateau broke away to a lower part. 

The park receives 15 (5 m) feet of snow a years and so is closed during the winter except for some limited winter activities.
