Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah
A plunging amphitheatre of multi-coloured rock is the highlight of this special area in southwest Utah.
From the top of the Colorado Plateau at an elevation of over 10,000 feet (3000 m) there are spectacular views of this amazing natural phenomenon cause by millions of years of erosion and carving.  Peculiar geological formations of hoodoo and The name Cedar Breaks has an interesting background: Utah Juniper trees which cover the below the part were mistakenly thought to be cedars.  Breaks refers to where the edge of the plateau broke away to a lower part.  The park receives 15 (5 m) feet of snow a years and so is closed during the winter except for some limited winter activities.
