Capitol Reef National Park, Utah

65 million years ago the earth buckled in south-central Utah creating a curious 100-mile long wrinkle on the landscape that has since weathered and eroded. This geological feature is now called the Waterpocket Fold and Capitol Reef National Park was created to preserve it and the amazing colourful spires, canyons and cliffs that one sees today. It is an astounding place of canyons, washes, arches and domes.

Early settlers in the area were amazed by the white dome features that are part of this diverse landscape. These ridges were called reefs and their colour reminded inhabitants of the whiteness of the Capitol building in Washington, DC, and so the area was named Capitol Reef.

Only a small part of this National Park is easily accessible leaving the rest of it untouched and available only to the intrepid explorer.

Capitol Reef is an inspiring, special place to be with dazzling photographic opportunities.
