July 2009 - Farewell-to-spring |
| | |
 |
| Clarkia amoena |
| Farewell-to-spring is a member of the Evening Primrose family found on dry, grassy slopes along the coast of the Pacific Northwest. It is a late bloomer flowering in midsummer after many of the other wildflowers have finished. Its scientific name Clarkia refers to William Clark, of the Lewis and Clark explorers; amoena means charming and as you can see from this picture, it truly is. |
