July 2007 - Common Teasel

Common Teasel
Dipsacus fullonum
Although classed as a weed, the Common Teasel is a unique looking flower that is worthy of its place as flower of the month. Its great height, to 6 feet or more, is one more reason that it was selected. It is popular with flower arrangers and the seed heads can liven up an otherwise plain flower arrangement. It doesn't grow in the shade, preferring moist and an acid soil.
