Hooded Pitcher Plant, Sarracenia minor

Found in moist, swampy parts of the southeastern United States, the Hooded Pitcher Plant is a carnivorous, insect consuming plant. Pitcher Plants are named for the funnel-like structure that resembles a pitcher. Prey is lured into the pitcher by scents and nectar. Around the lip of the pitcher are waxy deposits on which unsuspecting insects slip and fall into the pitcher where enzymes and digestive juices consume the victim.
